The Ironworks, located in the Blaenavon World Heritage Site, during a fall of snow

Winter

With crisp, frosty mornings and snow-covered hills, winter transforms the landscape of the World Heritage Site. Wrap up and take a brisk walk to a local inn or café and enjoy a bowl of hot Cawl (traditional Welsh soup) to warm you up.

Visit Mother Christmas at the Big Pit: National Coal Museum, who will be telling tales of Christmas past, and what it is like in the ‘Christmas’ household at this time of year.

You can start your Christmas shopping early at the Christmas Market, and continue to find unusual gifts in the shops of Blaenavon Heritage Town. Look out for the crib in Market Square, which is blessed in a ceremony hosted by Blaenavon Town Council in the run up to Christmas.
