Celebrate the arrival of the Olympic Flame in Blaenavon

Best of BlaenavonCelebrate the arrival of the Olympic Flame in Blaenavon, join in and get involved with the celebrations! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the Olympic Torch as it passes through the streets of Blaenavon. The Blaenavon World Heritage Centre will be marking this occasion with a fun packed event 'Best of Blaenavon', on Friday 25 May 2012, 12noon – 4pm. The event will showcase local food and craft producers, local visitor attractions and sport clubs. There will also be live music and entertainment and food served in the Heritage Tea Rooms, Fresh! Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway - Training for the torch

Description:
Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway – Training for the Torch.On May the 25th the Olympic Torch is coming to Torfaen, commencing its journey at Big Pit and then through Blaenavon. It's sure to be a popular sight but access to Big Pit will be restricted, with no car parking allowed. To enable people to enjoy this once in a lifetime event, Blaenavon's Heritage Railway will be operating a steam hauled Park and Ride service, from their main station at Furnace Sidings (just off the Blaenavon Brynmawr Road at Garn-yr-Erw) to their new station at Big Pit. Services will commence at 11:00 and run on demand to Big Pit until 12:20, when a special service will run from Furnace Sidings to the Bridge over the Big Pit road to watch the convey coming in from Brynmawr and to greet the torch. The service will then resume until 2:05pm when it will return to the bridge to watch the torch relay depart for Blaenavon after which the shuttle will restart until demand dwindles. Fares will be £4 adult, £2.50 children, with a family ticket (2 adults and up to 3 children) only £10. So why not add to a memorable day with a ride on a steam train.
