WORLD OF DISCOVERY - New courses available in Blaenavon World Heritage Site.

If you’ve ever wanted to learn more about the history or landscape of the local area then this is your chance. Join one of the brand new FREE courses on offer in the World Heritage Site.

Choose from our Upland Conservation course, and gain a greater understanding of why our uplands are so special, learn more about the wildlife which has made its home here, and discover the challenges of conservation in the upland environment. This course will be supported by optional field visits, where you will be given practical experience of monitoring plants and animals, including the elusive red grouse.

For history enthusiasts we are offering a Community Heritage course. If you would like to learn more about the life in Blaenavon through the ages and discover new ways of capturing and bringing the past to life, then the Community Heritage course could be for you. As well as lectures and demonstrations, there will be visits to examine heritage records, artefacts and memorabilia.

These evening classes will run over 10 weeks, starting with ‘Upland Conservation’ on Tuesday 24thJanuary, with ‘Community Heritage’ commencing on Wed 25th. All courses are delivered at Blaenavon World Heritage Centre and run from 7-9pm.

The courses have been developed by the Centre for Community and Lifelong Learning at University of Wales Newport and the Forgotten Landscapes Partnership and are possible thanks to the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund.
