Marguerite Rimbault
Memories of Marguerite Rimbault (b.1918)
My parents lived firstly at ‘Fairbanks’ and then ‘Ty Fraen’ in the Blaenavon Company’s Park. They moved to Blaenavon in 1939 and lived here until 1948.
My father worked for the Blaenavon Iron, Steel and Coal Company, in the offices across the road from The Park. Our dog used to jump the garden wall and chase the sheep.
Opposite the back of ‘Fairbanks’ was a circle of cottages where our cleaner lived. Their toilet was in the centre of the circle.
In 1947 the snow came to the top of the Park wall. All the pipes were frozen and we melted snow to get water.
