Volunteer and Junior Rangers

If you enjoy the countryside and would like to meet like-minded people, you may way want to consider becoming a volunteer ranger.

Blaenavon World Heritage Site Volunteer Ranger Service aims to conserve and enhance the countryside within the 33 square kilometre Blaenavon Industrial Landscape World Heritage Site.

Volunteer opportunities generally fall into the following areas:

  • Practical work on trails such as the 18km Iron Mountain Trail
  • Helping to develop and learning to lead guided walks
  • Dry stone walling
  • Visitor monitoring
  • Wildlife monitoring
  • Litter picks

Volunteer rangers hold an informal meeting at 7pm on the first Friday of every month at Blaenavon World Heritage Centre. If you’re interested in volunteering feel free to come along to one of the meetings. Alternatively you can find out more by telephoning Blaenavon World Heritage Site Ranger Alvin Nicholas on 01495 742335 / 07980 682749 or email alvin.nicholas@torfaen.gov.uk|.
