Guided Walk - Minescapes of the World Heritage Site Thursday  June 21st     

(8km / 5 miles Moderate) From Big Pit National Coal Museum SO 238 087 (meet at the main entrance).  Starts 10.00am – 3.00pm Leaders Alvin Nicholas / Peter Walker.  Keeper and Mine Manager Peter Walker will be giving a talk about the geology and industrial archaeology of the Blaenavon area, followed by a walk with Warden Alvin Nicholas to see some of the fascinating remains and industrial landscapes created at Blaenavon by coalmining and ironmaking  For more details call 01633 648045   

Guided Walk - Mountain Archaeology  Sunday June 24th      

((8km / 5miles / Moderate)
Leaders Alvin Nicholas / Frank Olding. Meet at Blaenavon World Heritage Centre, Church Road, Blaenavon . Starts 10.00am-12.00pm (indoor talk) 12.30pm – 4.30pm (outdoor walk) Think of this as ‘archaeology for hill walkers.’ The extensive and often remote uplands of Wales are home to an astonishing series of archaeological sites and landscapes, dating from earliest times to the very recent past. Join archaeologist Frank Olding and Warden Alvin Nicholas for a short (2 hour) talk & presentation followed by an excursion into the hills to learn how to identify and interpret archaeology in the Welsh upland environment. Guided Walk - The Forge and Railway Heritage Trail, Govilon. (Govilon Heritage)  Saturday July 21st 2007     

2.5km /1.5 miles / Easy. Meet at the Forge Car Park, on the Tyla Road, Govilon. SO 263 134 Starts 10.00am-11.30am  
This walk takes us along the picturesque old railway line to view the site of an ancient forge, later known as Wildon Iron Works, which may have given the village its name - from the Welsh gefailion (forges). A country lane with beautiful mountain views then leads us down to Govilon Aqueduct, and we have the chance to explore some of the most interesting historic buildings in Govilon before completing our railway reminiscences along the line behind Old Govilon Station.

Guided Walk - Fossil Hunt  Thursday July 26th       

(5km / 3 miles / Moderate) Meet at the Ironworks Car Park, Blaenavon SO 248 091. Starts 10.00am-2.30pm. A walk looking at archaeological features in the landscape and the reasoning behind their development – geology, location and the interaction of people with nature. Junior Ranger Activity Day Monday August 27th        

From Keepers Pond car park SO 254 107. Starts 10.30am. Children (accompanied by an adult) are invited to come along and take part in regular Junior Ranger activities such as wildlife spotting and pond dipping to earn a Junior Ranger Pack! Guided Walk -The Giant’s Thumb and the Lonely Shepherd (Welsh Language Walk)Sunday 2nd September        

8km / 5miles Moderate. Meet at Gilwern Wharf Car Park SO 243 146. Starts 10 – 2pm. A walk looking at the history and folklore of the Clydach Gorge and surrounding areas through the medium of Welsh. Leaders Frank Olding / Sue James.
